Gawthorpe Textile Collection
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Downton of the North’ Gawthorpe Hall is a Grade 1 listed building on the outskirts of Burnley. It is the only Lancashire Country House run by the National Trust. Its impressive Elizabethan structure has a rich history and is home to the Gawthorpe Textile Collection.
The charity* was founded in 1959 by the Honourable Rachel Beatrice Kay-Shuttleworth MBE (1886- 1967), a life long collector of global textile and craft items.
Rachel was the last family member to live at Gawthorpe Hall. She was a maker, teacher, collector, philanthropist and social activist who started amassing textile and craft items as early as 1912 to help her to teach heritage techniques - keeping them alive for future generations.
Lantex have been commissioned to work with this archive of designs, bringing them to life in new and modern products seen here – double oven gloves, range cooker hob tops, wash bags, etc.
Paul Chalker, comments, “We are delighted to be working alongside the Gawthorpe Textile Collection. To be entrusted with keeping the archive alive through these kitchenware products is a real endorsement of not only our skills in replicating the fabulous designs, but also of our commitment to and pride in Lancashire’s heritage.”
*Gawthorpe Textiles Collection (GTC) is the operating name of independent charity the Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections.
